Anyone know if VSP covers both glasses AND contacts in the same year? Or do you have to pick one or the other once a year?

R RileyJimenez29 1 week ago
Yeah, they do! I get my exam done and usually use my allowance for contacts first, then if there's anything left or a separate benefit, I can get glasses too. Pretty sweet.

AFAIK, you usually get an allowance for either glasses or contacts, but some plans have a separate benefit for each. Mine definitely covers both, but check the specific plan details before signing up, just to be sure.

Thinking about getting a VSP plan cause my eyes are getting worse. Is it really worth it for just one person, or am I better off just paying out of pocket for an exam and glasses?

I got it last year, just for myself, and honestly, the savings on frames alone made it worth it. My optometrist is in-network and they gave me like $150 off a nice pair of designer frames plus a good chunk off the lenses.

Hmm, I think it depends on how often you need new glasses or really expensive lenses. If you just need a basic exam and cheap frames, maybe not, but if you're into those fancy anti-reflective coatings or progressives, it adds up fast.
